ORCA is an offline read-only Epic order-set viewer for downtime; it does not hold patient data and cannot place orders.
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia published ORCA, the Offsite Repository of Clinical Assets, as a public GitHub repository. The tool gives clinical teams an offline, read-only way to search Epic order sets and SmartSets during downtime. ORCA is designed as a reference when the live EHR is unavailable. It contains no patient data and cannot place orders, preserving a clear safety boundary while giving clinicians access to standardized content during an outage. CHOP credits Bimal Desai with conceiving the project and Stephon Proctor with building it. Desai and Hojjat Salmasian shared the repository on Aug. 3, and the repository points readers to related work published in Applied Clinical Informatics in 2025.
